Nissan Frontier parts in Costa Rica: the ones people order most
Updated October 31, 2026 · AutoPartes.cr
On a Nissan Frontier, the parts replaced most often are brake pads and rotors, shock absorbers, leaf spring and control arm bushings, ball joints, CV joints, the clutch kit and filters. Before ordering, confirm the generation, engine, drivetrain and cab style with the VIN, because many parts change between versions.
Along with the Hilux, the Frontier is one of the most common pickups in Costa Rica: on farms, at building sites, on delivery runs, and as the family truck that handles gravel, river crossings and steep hills. Because it works so hard, some parts wear out sooner than on a city car. Here's which ones, how to tell which version you have, and what we need to quote you the right part.
Which Frontier generation do I have?
The year and body shape give you a good clue, but the VIN or chassis number is what confirms it. Almost every engine, suspension and body part changes from one generation to the next.
| Generation | Approximate years | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| D22 | Late 1990s to the mid-2010s | Very common in Costa Rica, diesel and gasoline |
| D40 | 2005 to 2021 | The Frontier sold in the US in those years |
| D23 (NP300) | From the mid-2010s | Version for Latin America and other markets |
| D41 | From 2022 | Today's US Frontier |
Exact years, engines and equipment vary with the country the truck was sold in and the trim. Some markets kept selling the D22 for years after the next generation came out, so two Frontiers from the same year can be very different underneath. That's why we don't go by the year alone: the VIN tells us exactly what yours has.
Which Frontier parts get replaced most?
Brakes, suspension, driveline and service parts top the list. A pickup that hauls loads and runs on gravel roads wears them faster:
- Brakes: front pads, rotors and, on many versions, rear drum shoes and wheel cylinders.
- Suspension and steering: shock absorbers, leaf spring bushings, control arm bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends and sway bar links.
- Driveline: CV joints and their boots on 4x4s, driveshaft U-joints and wheel bearings.
- Clutch: the full kit (disc, pressure plate and release bearing) on manual trucks, and there are plenty of those.
- Filters: oil, air, cabin and fuel, which on a diesel are worth keeping on schedule.
- Cooling and electrical: radiator, water pump, thermostat, alternator and starter.
- Body and lights: headlights, taillights, mirrors and bumpers, especially after a knock.
If your Frontier bounces too much or bangs over potholes, check the signs of worn shock absorbers before you order.
Do parts differ between diesel and gasoline?
Yes, for anything to do with the engine. Brakes and much of the suspension are usually shared within a generation, but it's always worth confirming.
What changes most with the engine:
- Filters: oil, air and especially fuel filters, which are different on diesels.
- Ignition: spark plugs and coils only apply to gasoline engines; diesels use glow plugs instead.
- Timing: depending on the engine, it has a belt or a chain. Your mechanic or the owner's manual will confirm which yours has.
- Water pump, thermostat, belts, gaskets and sensors: also engine-specific.
If you don't know which engine you have, the VIN plus a photo of the engine label or engine cover helps a lot.
Does 4x2 or 4x4, single or double cab matter?
Yes. 4x4s have CV joints, a front differential and other driveline parts that 4x2s don't, and on some versions the front suspension is different too. Single, extended and double cabs use different doors and glass, sometimes different beds, and the driveshaft length can change.
For brakes, tell us whether the part is for the front or the rear, and whether the truck is a 4x2 or a 4x4.
Can you get Frontier parts in the United States?
It depends on the generation. The Frontier sold in the US was the D40 and is now the D41, so for those there's a good supply of genuine Nissan parts and reputable aftermarket brands. Filters, brakes, suspension and cooling parts are easy to find.
The long-running D22 and the D23 (NP300) sold in Latin America aren't the same truck as the US version, even though they share the name. Some parts match and others don't. In those cases we check fitment with the VIN before buying, and if a part is hard to source we tell you in the quote, before you pay anything. We don't keep parts in stock: we import each one to order, and it usually arrives in 1 to 3 weeks.
What should I send to get a quote for a Frontier part?
The more detail, the lower the risk of ordering the wrong part. Send us:
- The year and, if you know it, the generation.
- The engine: diesel or gasoline, and the displacement if you know it.
- The drivetrain: 4x2 or 4x4.
- The cab: single, extended or double, if it's a body part.
- The transmission: manual or automatic.
- The VIN or chassis number.
- A photo of the old part or where it goes, if you don't know its exact name.
If your mechanic has already told you which part is failing, ask them to confirm its name or part number. And if you're unsure about a noise or a fault, have them diagnose it before you order.
In short
On a Frontier, brakes, suspension, 4x4 driveline parts, the clutch and filters wear out most, and almost everything changes with the generation, engine, drivetrain and cab. If you're not sure where the number is, here's where to find your car's VIN. When you're ready, request your free quote: we'll send you the total price in colones, no commitment.
