BYD parts in Costa Rica: Dolphin, Yuan Plus, Seal and more

Updated November 5, 2026 · AutoPartes.cr

Quick answer

On a BYD electric car, the parts replaced most are tires, brake pads and rotors, shocks, the 12V battery, wiper blades and the cabin filter. Many of these can be imported; model-specific parts are checked case by case. Send the VIN, the exact model and trim, and a photo of the part.

BYD is one of the most common electric car brands on Costa Rican roads: the Dolphin around town, the Yuan Plus as a family SUV, the Seal as a sedan, and the bigger Han and Tang. Many of them now have a few years on them, and it's time for tires, brakes or a new 12V battery. Here's what wears out on each kind of BYD, what we can bring in, and how to order it without mistakes.

Which BYD models are there in Costa Rica?

The most common are fully electric models from BYD's Ocean and Dynasty lines, and the brand keeps adding new ones every year. Knowing the exact name matters, because the same car can go by a different name in another country.

Model Type Useful when ordering parts
Dolphin Compact hatchback Comes in versions with different battery and power
Yuan Plus Compact SUV Sold as the Atto 3 in other countries
Yuan Pro Small SUV Newer; confirm the trim
Seal Sedan Rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor versions
Han Large sedan Bigger suspension and brake parts
Tang Large three-row SUV Heavier, harder on tires and suspension

If yours is a newer model or a plug-in hybrid, the process is the same: we identify it from the VIN.

Which BYD parts wear out most?

As on any EV, what wears is what touches the road and the cabin, not the engine. A fully electric BYD has no engine oil, spark plugs or clutch.

  • Tires. BYDs are heavy because of the battery and deliver torque instantly, so tires tend to wear faster than on a similar gas car.
  • Shocks, bushings and ball joints. The extra weight and our potholes work them hard, especially on the Tang and Han.
  • Brake pads and rotors. Regenerative braking helps them last, but rotors rust when they're barely used.
  • The 12V battery. When it fails, the car won't turn on even with a full main battery.
  • Cabin filter and wiper blades. With our heat and rain, it pays to change them regularly.
  • Brake fluid and coolant. Routine maintenance; your mechanic will tell you when, based on the manual.

Can you get BYD parts from the US?

Not all of them. BYD doesn't sell its passenger cars in the US, so there are no BYD dealers there with original parts. What's easy to find are parts that depend on size rather than the brand.

Part Can we get it? What to confirm
Tires Yes, usually Size, load index and speed rating of your current tire
12V battery Yes, almost always Dimensions, type and terminal position
Wiper blades, cabin filter, bulbs Almost always Size or the number on the old part
Brake pads, rotors, shocks Often Model, trim and photos of the old part
Charging adapters and cables Yes The connector type on your car
Main battery, motor, modules, body panels Case by case Part number and clear photos

If a model-specific part can't be sourced reliably, we tell you before charging you anything. We don't keep stock: every part is imported to order, and it usually arrives in 1 to 3 weeks. If your question is about the charging plug, here's how to choose a charging adapter for a Chinese EV.

What do I send to get a quote for a BYD part?

The key detail is the 17-character VIN, shown on the windshield, the door frame and the title. If you can't find it, here's where to find your car's VIN.

To quote you properly, send us:

  1. The full VIN, or a photo of where it appears.
  2. The model and exact trim, as shown in the papers. A Dolphin or a Seal can come in versions with different power, wheels or brakes.
  3. The year of the car.
  4. A photo of the old part, especially any number or label printed on it.
  5. For tires, a photo of the sidewall showing the size.

With that we find the part number and cross-check it against what's available in the US.

Which BYD parts shouldn't I replace myself?

Anything high-voltage. The main battery, the orange cables, the electric motor and the onboard charger should only be handled by a technician trained on EVs.

  • Tires, wiper blades and the cabin filter: any shop can do them.
  • Brakes, suspension and the 12V battery: a trusted mechanic, following the maker's procedure.
  • The high-voltage system: specialist technicians only.

Before fitting any part, have your mechanic confirm it's the right one for your trim.

In short

On a BYD, what wears most is tires, brakes, suspension, the 12V battery and filters, and many of those parts can be imported. Model-specific parts we check one by one. If you drive another Chinese brand, read our guide to parts for Chinese electric cars, and if your car thumps over potholes, check the signs of worn shock absorbers. Frequently asked questions

Can you get original BYD parts?

Sometimes, through suppliers outside the dealer network. Many wear parts are available as compatible alternatives; if the only option isn't one we trust, we tell you before charging.

Are Yuan Plus and Atto 3 parts the same?

They're the same model under different names depending on the country, but trims and years can differ. We confirm the part with your VIN before buying it.

How long does a part for my BYD take?

Usually 1 to 3 weeks. If the part is hard to find, we'll say so in the quote.

How do I pay for the part?

You pay a 50% deposit by card or SINPE Móvil when you accept the quote, and the rest when the part is delivered.
